First Press has no accounts. We never ask for your name, email address, phone
number or location, and we do not use advertising or third-party analytics
software.
What we collect
- A random device identifier. Your phone generates a random
identifier the first time you open the app. We use it to count your free
scans and to remember that you have a subscription. It is not derived from
any hardware identifier and is not linked to you.
- Photos you scan. A photo is sent to our servers so the
record can be identified. We do not store your photos. The
image is processed and discarded. We keep only the text read from it
(catalogue number, matrix code, artist and title) together with a
mathematical fingerprint of the image, for 24 hours, so that scanning the
same sleeve twice does not repeat the work.
- Searches. What you type when you look up a record.
- How scans turn out. Whether a scan identified a record,
which pressing you picked, how confident the match was and how long it took.
This is tied to the random device identifier and tells us where the app is
getting things wrong.
What stays on your phone
Your collection — the records you save, their grades and their estimated values
— is stored on your device. We do not receive it and we cannot see it. Deleting
the app deletes it.
Who else sees data
- Discogs receives search terms and catalogue numbers in
order to return release and marketplace data. First Press is not affiliated
with Discogs.
- Google processes scanned images to read the text on them,
through its Gemini API.
- Apple handles all payments. We receive a signed receipt
confirming that a subscription is valid. We never see your card, your Apple
Account or your billing address.
We do not sell data and we do not share it with anyone else.
How long we keep it
- Image fingerprints and extracted text — 24 hours
- Prices — 6 hours
- Search results — 7 days
- Release details — 30 days
- Scan outcome records — kept while the app is in service, so we can measure
and improve accuracy
Your choices
Because we hold no identifying information, we cannot look you up by name. If
you want the records associated with your device deleted, email us and we will
explain how to find your device identifier in the app's settings, then remove
everything tied to it.
Children
First Press is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly
collect information from them.
